writing
what is it?
Just because everyone can write, everyone thinks they can write. They can’t. We can.
If you’ve ever had to read through a stack of job applications, you know that the ability to put letters together into words does not translate directly into powerful, insightful, attractive prose. Writing that affects your business should be done by professional writers. Whether you need copy for collateral materials, newsletters, internal documents, press releases, advertising, training materials, books, scripts or business letters, you should seriously consider having the work done by professional writers, or at least reviewed and edited by “word people.”
what does it involve?
On top of everything else our Sanestormers do, many of them are, at heart, writers. Some have written and published poetry as well as prose. Some have written extensive advertising copy and public relations materials. Some write training materials, web-site copy, business books, industrial scripts, articles, seminar materials, legal disclaimers... the whole ball of wax.
Whatever kind of written communication you have and/or need, we can help. A partial list of writing tasks we’re up for would include:
- Editing of existing materials
- Advertising writing
- Newsletter writing
- Public relations materials
- Customer communications
- Training materials
- Ghostwriting of articles/books
- Article research and writing
- Lyrics
- Web copy
- Fiction, drama, poetry and nonfiction projects
- Biographical studies
- Industrial production scripts
- Corporate communications
- Speech writing
That’s a good start, anyway. If it needs words, give us a shout. It’s a pretty good bet we can help you out.
why do this?
As was stated above, just about everyone knows how to write... to some extent. That, however, does not mean that everyone has studied writing and editing, business writing, the elements of prose, and how to effectively write for different media. If you want your business materials to have an impact, you should seriously consider hiring professional writers.
why do it with sanestorm?
We’re word geeks. We read constantly. We write constantly. For fun, for friends, for family, and for ourselves. We think about writing all the time. We love it. We love the complexity and nuance of English. The ability to create incredibly specific shades of meaning. We love to edit, to make existing writing better. We love to think of better metaphors. We love to say the same thing five different ways, in order to find the one way that resonates with our clients and their customers.
Not everyone feels that way. Many people are intimidated by the rigors of good writing. Not us. It’s a challenge we never grow tired of.*
Put our mania to work for you.
*We know; that sentence ended with a preposition. The myth that ending a sentence with a preposition is always wrong may have begun with a book by Robert Lowth, Bishop of London in the 18th century. In his “Short Introduction to English Grammar,” he urged his readers to be “polite” by avoiding prepositions at the end of their sentences when possible. Now, the “rule,” according to modern grammarians, is that whatever sounds best should take precedent. You wouldn’t say, “The dog refused in to come.” You’d say, “The dog refused to come in.” This is a point, we assume, over which writers will continue to fight.
